Floral Trends for 2023 Weddings

A common theme? Pushing back against anything that is unnecessarily wasteful. A more sustainable wedding is not only firmly in, but it’s a trend that is here to stay.

Statement ceiling decoration

This is a trend that is growing and becoming more popular this year. Suspended floral installation above a marquee bar, a flower cloud above the dance floor or long and low floral clouds above trestle style dining is becoming popular. With grazing boards and sharing platters continuing to be popular, floral displays suspended above allow for this style of dining. Investing in large key pieces that create a gasp as your guests enter the reception room is becoming the chosen design or smaller designs in larger quantities.

Let’s talk about aisles

Often an afterthought, but the trend of ‘living’ aisles is set to continue with meadow style trays lined up and down the aisle to create the illusion on a meadow path as you enter. These designs are made using sustainable methods, using foliage, grasses and tall flower stems to create a wild and whimsical look.

Think church, outdoor ceremony, hall, marquee, this versatile design can adapt to any setting and can also be repurposed elsewhere for later in the day for your reception party. A far cry from the traditional ‘pew ends’ and much more on trend for 2023!

Colour

We all love a classic wedding with white and green flowers, and the last few years have seen a lot of this style, with a fair measure of blush thrown in too, but it’s now time to embrace some colour and be a little braver!

With sustainable British grown flowers becoming more readily available and with more growers on the scene, the supply is getting greater and therefore the demand is rising for this style too. Trusting your florist to work with the seasons and use flowers that are in abundance at the time of your wedding is your best choice. Varieties that you can’t get elsewhere and a colour palette which won’t fail to disappoint. Think pops of colour, vibrant coral, orange and pinks, the choice is yours. Also, the trend for thoughtful coloured vases, streamers and drapes, candles, napkins and table decor continues - tutti-frutti style!

My clients want unabashed colour, wild patterns, luscious flowers, and moments of unexpected delight. A playful palette encourages fun.

Let’s finish with ~ sustainability

We will continue to work sustainably when designing wedding florals and we hope that many more florists will soon work this way. Here at Lily Loves, we have been ‘foam free’ for sometime now, but we are also continuing to make improvements in all areas. You can also do your bit to help improve sustainability and be less wasteful and more mindful with your choices. What floral displays can you re use and re purpose? Ask your florist where your flowers are coming from? How far has your florist got to travel to get to you? Could you consider someone more local to your venue? What mechanics will your florist use? These are just a few things to consider and I’ll be writing another post about sustainability soon with more tips to make sure we are all working towards doing our bit to help the environment.
